Abraham’s story begins to pass into the hands of his descendants. In a moment both sorrowful and sacred, he purchases a burial site for Sarah, a quiet yet powerful act of faith in God’s promise of the land. Isaac, now the bearer of the covenant, is given Rebekah, a gift of providence through the prayerful seeking of a faithful servant.

Jacob and Esau are born, struggling even in the womb. Their story begins with tension, deceit, and longing. Yet through it all, God’s purposes press forward, not because of human virtue, but through divine choice and mercy. When Jacob flees from Esau’s anger, God meets him in a dream with a stairway reaching to heaven. The covenant is renewed, not because Jacob deserved it, but because God is faithful.
