Statue of Servando Campos

In the town of Linares, Chile, lived a man named Servando Campos, though everyone called him Servandito. Back in the 1960s, he was often seen walking barefoot through the streets, asking for spare change just to get by. At first glance, he might have seemed like just another poor man on the margins. But those who met him quickly saw something else. He was gentle, polite, and endlessly kind.

Even with little to his name, Servandito gave what he could. He helped his sister’s struggling family, always choosing to care for others despite his own needs. People came to know him not just for his poverty, but for his humility and quiet generosity. In time, his kindness became part of the town’s memory.

Years later, the people of Linares built a bronze statue of him, showing him just as he was—barefoot and leaning on his cane. It now stands near the main square, a tribute raised through donations from the community. Locals still stop to touch the statue and say a quiet word. Some say he’s a kind of local saint now. What’s certain is that Servandito reminded everyone that you don’t need wealth to leave a mark. Just heart.
