A toy story

In the small town of Buchs, near Zurich, a harmless purchase turned into a big problem for Marc Jaisli, a local council member. He never expected that buying pink water pistols for his godchildren would cause such a fuss.
In August, Jaisli ordered some pink water pistols from a cheap online store called Temu, thinking they would make a fun gift. But the Swiss authorities didn’t agree. They said the toys were against the country’s weapons law because they looked too much like real guns, even though they were pink.
The local newspaper, Aargauer Zeitung, reported that Jaisli was fined 6,500 francs ($7,390) for breaking the law. The prosecutors argued that the water pistols could be mistaken for real firearms, which posed a risk.
Jaisli was surprised to hear this, but he accepted the fine and paid it.
