In the summer of 1985, two brothers, Neil and Matt McMahon, set out on an adventure in the northern forests near Big River, Saskatchewan. They had fishing rods in hand and a sense of excitement as they ventured deep into the dense woods, eager to enjoy the peacefulness of nature. But as they made their way through the trees, something unexpected happened. They came across a black bear rummaging through the underbrush.

Instead of panicking, the brothers stood still, not wanting to startle the bear. They watched as the animal moved about, completely unaware of their presence. After a few tense moments, the bear wandered off into the forest, leaving the brothers to take a deep breath of relief. They had just experienced a rare encounter in the wild, one that would turn into a cherished family story for years to come. The calmness they showed in the face of an unexpected situation would become a testament to their ability to handle whatever the wild had to throw at them.
